Thrilling 5-4 League Victory Marks Start of New Era for Worthing College Men's Football Academy

Worthing College Men’s Football Academy got off to a flying start in the first game of the England Colleges National League season with a fantastic 5-4 win.

The action-packed contest took place at Worthing FC’s Woodside Road ground, marking the first competitive match since the announcement of the three-year partnership between Worthing College and the club.

The exciting collaboration is designed to give aspiring young footballers outstanding opportunities to develop their talents both on the pitch and in the classroom.

In the match, Worthing College’s Gabe Partington (pictured on the ball in a match last season) and Archie Brown scored twice each, while Ethan Lines added the fifth goal to secure all three points against a spirited London-based side.

The result provides an exciting start to a partnership that aims to create a clear pathway for talented young footballers to combine academic success with high level football development.

David Hall, Teaching & Learning Manager for Sport at Worthing College, was delighted to see the programme begin the season positively. He said:

“It was great to see the squad take on London-based opposition at Woodside Road as part of our ongoing partnership with Worthing FC.

“Performance-wise, it’s early days, but it was fantastic to see the endeavour of the players to grind out a result against a dangerous side. We are really looking forward to seeing where we can take this partnership and the programme to the next level.”

Chris Jones, Football Development Manager at Worthing FC, was equally impressed by the team’s performance. He said:

“Really great to see the first league game of the season and the first game at Woodside Road end in a victory.

“I was really impressed to see the mens first team deal with a challenging side from London and acquit themselves so well.

“I’m very confident that if the group continue to be so prolific going forward, they will be at the start of a very positive season.”
