Lasting Impact and Treasured Memories: Worthing College's Georgie Smith Bids A Fond Farewell to Chichester College Group

A former student who went on to support learners across multiple campuses is leaving Chichester College Group after almost 19 years of dedicated service.

From starting as an Attendance Tracker while studying A Levels at Chichester College to becoming a Pastoral Support Manager at Worthing College, Georgie Smith’s journey has been shaped by a passion for helping students succeed.

Over the years Georgie has collected a host of “treasured memories” from working in supportive roles at Northbrook College, Worthing College, Haywards Heath College and Crawley College.

She studied A Levels at Chichester College from September 2001 to June 2004. And in 2003, she also worked in her first role tracking and monitoring individual student attendance alongside her studies.

In 2007, Georgie took up a role as a Student Tutor in Hair and Beauty at the college. After five years, she became a Senior Student Experience Champion in sport, known today as a Senior Pastoral Support Tutor.

Georgie was part of a team that supported Crawley in their training and development post-merger, and then, having returned to work after the Covid lockdown, the opportunity for promotion to the Pastoral Support Manager role came up.

This time, in August 2020, it meant a move away from Chichester where CCG had newly merged with Worthing College, and the opportunity to manage her own team of Pastoral Support Tutors at Worthing College. The following year saw Georgie work at Haywards Heath campus as well before also taking on Northbrook College.

After almost six years, Georgie decided to move in a new direction by becoming a driving instructor.

She shared: “It has been my proudest achievement managing the teams across Worthing and Northbrook. But it is now time for something different and a new challenge.

“I have loved working within CCG and feel lucky to have worked across every campus (except Brighton) and will treasure the memories forever.

“The people are what makes the place really special. I am lucky to continue my work with students, just in a different capacity. Thank you to all of my colleagues. How brilliant you are.”

Helena Thomas, Principal of Worthing College and Northbrook College, said: “Georgie has made a tremendous contribution to both Northbrook and Worthing Colleges, and I have been very fortunate to work with her during her time as Pastoral Support Manager across both colleges.

“She has always brought genuine warmth, care and commitment to her role, with the wellbeing and success of students at the heart of everything she does. Georgie has supported so many students through their college journey, often at times when they have needed it most, and has also been a hugely valued and supportive colleague.

“After so many years with the Group, Georgie leaves having made a real difference to our college communities. I would like to thank her personally for everything she has contributed and wish her every happiness and success in whatever comes next.”
