Worthing College launches partnership with local electronics employer

11 November 2021

Worthing College and GB Electronics have teamed up to ensure students have access to a wealth of future opportunities.

GB Electronics have sponsored the college’s electronics lab by providing essential equipment, including wire cutters, cabling and PIC microcontroller chips, as well as offering an inside track to students for summer internships, work experience as well as apprenticeship opportunities.

And they will be supporting the college with community outreach programmes designed to promote engineering and electronics to young people.

GB Electronics, who are based in Goring-by-Sea, will also be opening up their premises for college trips, giving Worthing students first-hand insight into the industry.

Paul Riley, Principal at Worthing College, said: “We are delighted to be extending our working relationship with GB Electronics.

“The support we receive from Mark and his team is fantastic, and I know our students value the time they donate as well as the fantastic equipment they have provided to us.

“We’re proud to have close links with our local industry leaders, and these relationships are absolutely crucial in giving our students opportunities which will help them to get ahead in their chosen careers.”

Mark Bullen, Managing Director, GB Electronics (UK) Ltd added: “GBE have been working with Worthing College for nearly four years now.

“The relationship started with a short presentation, to their engineering students, about product design in a local electronic engineering company. This moved on to employing and sponsoring a former pupil through his degree apprenticeship.

“Now, after taking on another apprentice in our production engineering department, I am delighted to build on this valuable connection by sponsoring one of Worthing College’s engineering labs. A huge thank you to Chris Stabler for facilitating and managing this.

“I have been incredibly impressed with the commitment, passion, and positive attitude of Paul Riley’s teaching team. They go above and beyond: inspiring their students and showing them how their studies can lead to a successful career in industry.

“I firmly believe that local industry and academic partnerships are vital for the future generations of our country and am delighted that GB Electronics can play its part in this.”
