Once seated in these same seats, Archie Hanson and Adam Beardmore have returned to the classroom that helped inspire their exciting journey into the electronics industry.

Former Worthing College students Archie Hanson and Adam Beardmore returned to give a talk to electronics students

The former Worthing College students delivererd an insightful talk on degree apprenticeships, sharing top tips on skills and how to approach potential employers.

Both were recruited by local firm GB Electronics to undertake degree apprenticeships. In recent years, a strong partnership has developed between the company and the college, including sponsorship of its electronics lab.

GB Electronics also sponsor the annual Electronics Project Prize, which was awarded to Brandon Lee, a second year, A-level student, who received a £50 Amazon voucher. Brandon plans to pursue a degree apprenticeship in engineering.

Archie and Adam also reviewed a prototype scoreboard with the students which is being developed by the college’s Rugby Scoreboard Club. The club, launched in September 2022, sees students volunteer two hours a week to build the scoreboard, which is expected to be ready for the start of the new rugby season in September.

GB Electronics has supported the design and build process, with Archie and Adam returning regularly to help guide the project.

Chris Stabler, teacher of Physics and Electronics, said: “Adam discussed how he ended up doing a degree apprenticeship with GBE, what sort of skills they were looking for and how to approach companies who may offer apprenticeships.

“The feedback from students was very positive as they felt they received really good, practical advice.”
