COURSE OVERVIEW
By investigating different areas of travel and tourism the course aims to develop your understanding of the travel and tourism industry. You will study of range of topics during the course including: • Interpersonal skills for the Travel and Tourism workplace • Principles of customer service in hospitality, leisure and Travel and Tourism • UK Travel and Tourism destinations • Worldwide Travel Destinations • Resort Representatives • Travel Planning • Introduction to Cruise Industry • Visitor Attractions We use a wide range of teaching methods throughout the course including presentations, discussions, group work and lots of independent research. As much of the course is assignment based you will be spending time working on these in lessons and completing work packs for exam units to prepare for online exams.
FURTHER INFORMATION
Minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade 3 or above, including English Language. Another written subject may be considered. GCSE maths would be preferred. You will not need any prior knowledge of the travel and tourism industry, just a willingness to learn and a real interest in how this industry operates.
Students find that because of the skills they develop on the course they have many employment opportunities available to them. If you achieve a Merit you will have the opportunity to progress to Level 3 courses at Worthing College such as a Level 3 Travel and Tourism.
This course is assessed by coursework and on-line multiple-choice exams. Some coursework tasks are completed in timed controlled conditions. Online exams for UK Travel and Tourism Destinations and Worldwide Travel Destinations are open book and you can take in your work pack you complete in lessons and an Atlas. All work produced on the course contributes to the final mark. Coursework Units are internally marked by your teachers and externally verified. Students can achieve a Pass, Merit, Distinction. Students are given frequent feedback on their current level of achievement and advice on how to improve
You will have a work experience week which is a compulsory element of the course. There are a range of day trips linked to units studied, and the possibility of an overseas residential trip.
