Paul Norris, who won an Academy Award for his work on the visual effects in the film ‘Ex-Machina’, which was released 2014, met digital media students – and even brought along his Oscar statuette!

He was joined by Nicola Instone, a senior leader within the field of Project Management who has worked with big global brands, such as HSBC, Barclays, Ford, Warner Bros, BBC, NSPCC and Virgin Media.

They came in to launch a new project as part of the Between the Blue and Green Film Festival. They supported students as they started to develop ideas for their upcoming digital media coursework, which will be submitted and screened at this year’s festival.

The students will create a three-minute-long video, shot on their smartphones, which will then be entered into the festival’s smartphone category, specifically designed for young filmmakers.

Helena Thomas, Principal of Worthing College, said:
“This was an incredible opportunity for our students to gain first-hand insights from accomplished professionals in the film and media industries.

“Experiences like these ignite creativity and ambition, giving our students the confidence to bring their ideas to life and showcase their talent on a larger platform.

“It was an honour to welcome Paul to Worthing College. He studied at Northbrook College, also part of our college group – so it was great for our students to see someone who has been in their shoes and be inspired by their achievements.”
