Worthing College Hosts Inspiring Sports and Health Careers Event
Worthing College recently hosted a dynamic Sports and Health Careers event, bringing together a variety of local employers and universities to showcase the diverse opportunities available to students.
Held in the college’s exhibition hall, the event featured 28 different stalls, including local companies and Worthing College’s own Progression Plus and sports teams.
The event provided students with a platform to engage directly with professionals, ask questions, and gain valuable insights into potential career paths.
A variety of workshops and talks were also put on for students, these ranged from talks about being a youth support worker, to chiropractic and osteopathy.
Josh Simpson, a representative of Southampton Solent University and former Worthing College alumni, said: “We’ve come to give students an overall outlook on what we do at university, and all the sports options they have available to them.
“The students have been involved in a couple of practical sessions, we’ve brought some agility equipment with us, called the OptoJump and Blaze Pods, which test students’ agility and lower leg power.
“For me, this kind of equipment such as this is what ignited my love for the topic, and it’s about showing to students it isn’t all just theory, there are ways to apply what you learn to the real world”
Rob Cruise, who was at the event representing the West Sussex franchise of The Outdoors Project, added: “We’re all about getting kids active, working with primary school-age children, we run afterschool clubs, birthday parties, curriculum workshops, and holiday clubs.
“We’ve had some real success with 16–18-year-olds coming to work with us over the school holidays as outdoors instructors, and we’re looking to try and recruit some more.
“It’s been a really busy day, we haven’t been to a career’s fair before, so we didn’t know what to quite expect, we’ve had a real nice flow and big groups of people coming over to talk to us.”
The event gave students a platform to engage directly with, ask questions, and gain valuable insights into potential career paths.
Helena Thomas, Principal of Worthing College and Northbrook College, emphasized the importance of such events:
“This event highlights our dedication to equipping students with the inspiration they need to succeed in their future careers. Events like this are invaluable in fostering ambition and helping students realise the breadth of opportunities available to them in the sports and health industries.”
