Worthing College football team crowned Sussex County Cup champions

Worthing College U19 2nd XI football team have become Sussex County Cup winners after defeating The Weald School in a penalty shootout.

The team played at Culver Road, Lancing on Friday 10 May, after a successful season of beating teams such as: Brighton Met, Claremont and Thomas Bennett.

Worthing midfielder Jonah Kuehn put the side 1-0 up in the first half from a corner, before Weald won a penalty and equalised minutes before half time.

The final whistle was called with the score at 1-1, taking the game to penalties where Worthing kept their cool with two shots saved by keeper Ethan Morriss.

Dave Hall, Teaching & Learning Manager for Sport at Worthing College, Dave Hall said: “It has been amazing to see both the women’s and men’s squads performing consistently at the top level of college sport again this season. 

“This is great testament to the staff and the players for their hard work and commitment to being the best that they can be. The men’s programme has had a fantastic season, picking up three pieces of silverware on the way.

“With this year’s trials complete and squads finalised, we are all looking forward to what the future brings both in and out of the classroom.”
