Brinsbury inspires Worthing College science students

8 February 2024

Science students from Worthing College gained a valuable insight into the science of farming, thanks to a recent visit to Brinsbury College.

A group of 12 applied science students from Worthing made the trip to Brinsbury – also part of Chichester College Group – where they spent time at the farm.

Alex Hollands, farm manager, showed the students around and talked them through the use of technology in farming.

Hazel Rose, science teacher at Worthing College, said: “Alex was so informative and explained exactly what the applied science students needed for their upcoming coursework units. They learnt about antibiotic resistance, how milking has many stages of testing throughout the process and AI.

“We also had a tour of the main college with Nicky Ludlow-Monk. The students found great links from the talk on horticulture and sustainable farming to their unit tasks, they especially enjoyed taking home a little souvenir plant friend.

“Lastly Warren Taylor introduced our students to the many small and large animals, and they were in raptures over the vast array of beasts at the college. I think many are keen to embark on future studies there.

“A big ‘Thank You’ to all the hard-working staff at Brinsbury.”
