Double bronze celebrations for Worthing College

26 April 2022

Two Worthing College Sports Academy teams are celebrating winning bronze medals on the national stage.

The college’s women’s rugby and netball academy teams returned from the Association of Colleges (AoC) Sport National Championships with medals, after each placing third in their respective competitions.

They had beaten the best teams in the south east to be selected to represent the region at the national finals – where they were up against stiff opposition.

Both teams got off to a flying start, with the netball team winning all five of their matches on day one of the competition and the rugby team putting in a strong performance in their first set of games as well.

It meant they went into the final day in good spirits and putting in a fighting display of spirit to come away from the competition with a full set of bronze medals.

Paul Riley, Worthing College Principal, said: “We are extremely proud of our teams, they represented Worthing College on the national stage and for both sides to leave with bronze medals is a fantastic achievement.

“They were up against the very best college teams in the country, and they showed great resilience and team spirit throughout the competition.

“We have a very strong Sports Academy programme here at Worthing College, supporting our players in both their studies and their sporting ambitions and that is reflected in our players’ dedication. They are a credit to the whole college community.”
