New year off to a champion start as college netballers qualify for national competition
Last month, the college netball team played in the AOC South East regional tournament, where the winners would qualify for the AOC National Championships being held at Nottingham University.
During the intense tournament day, the team played several colleges in the region in their pool to reach the semi-final, where they narrowly beat Farnborough Sixth Form by scoring two goals against their opponents.
The final saw the team battle with Itchen College for the top spot, winning 17-11 to become South East champions for a fourth successive year in a row.
Coach Tina Price said: “I am delighted for the girls to reach another national final.
“They didn’t play their best in the rounds but were brilliant in the semi-final and final. Going to the national championships is the best weekend of the year, something all our sports students aspire to be part of.”
2022 is set to be another busy year for the college netballer. On Tuesday they travelled to Gordon’s School in Woking to compete in the last 16 of the Sisters in Sport National Cup.
And next up they’ll be representing Sussex in the regional round of the National Schools Competition at Wavell School in Farnborough at the end of the month. They’ll be looking to defend their National U19 title, having won the competition in 2019 and 2020.
