College staff's community spirit shines through

25 January 2021

The Chichester College Group (CCG), which includes Chichester College, Brinsbury College, Crawley College, Worthing College and Haywards Heath College (opening September 2020), has joined the national ‘FE Foodbank Friday’ campaign.

The campaign has been set up to raise money for community food banks, many of which are seeing a decline in donations during the current Covid-19 pandemic. CCG is aiming to raise £10,000 for the Trussell Trust, a national charity which supports more than 1,200 food bank centres across the country including several in West Sussex.

In just over two hours, staff from across all of the colleges had already raised more than £1,000. Shelagh Legrave OBE, Chief Executive of CCG, said: “The community spirit at all of our colleges never fails to impress me.

“The willingness shown by our staff to come together and help people in our region is always amazing – and once again they have demonstrated this by raising more than £1,000 in little over two hours.

“As a college group – and as individual colleges – we are proud to sit at the heart of our communities. And this is no less true during these challenging times.

“We know the impact Coronavirus – or Covid-19 – is already having on our economy. That’s why we’re supporting FE Food Bank Friday, an initiative launched by the London & South East Education Group, to help raise money for food banks at a time when they may be struggling to receive food donations.”
