COURSE OVERVIEW
The apprenticeship standard equips mechatronics maintenance technicians with essential knowledge, skills, and behaviours. Apprentices learn to use IT tools, understand engineering problem-solving, and follow safety regulations. Key areas include engineering materials, industry standards, and technologies like electrical and mechanical systems. The programme covers risk mitigation, fault-finding, quality management, and sustainability. Skills developed include using technology for documentation, performing maintenance, and ensuring safety compliance. Professional behaviours such as promoting diversity, committing to continuous improvement, and supporting sustainable practices are emphasised, preparing technicians to manage complex tasks effectively and ethically.
FURTHER INFORMATION
Applicants must be at least 16 years of age and have the following.
Grade 4 in both GCSE Maths and English
Achieving a HNC in Engineering will give direct access into further employment in the engineering sector. It will also provide the option to top up your HNC.
Skilled employment within the Engineering sector.
Higher Level apprenticeships at Level 6 and above.
Assessment during your apprenticeship will be through assignments. Each outcome or module will be assessed by a project-style assignment. There will be additional tasks on the college OneFile system. At the end of the apprenticeship students will complete an End Point Assessment consisting of:
Assessment method 1: Observation with questioning
Assessment method 2: Professional discussion supported by a portfolio of evidence
There is no cost to an apprentice.
If you are an employer employing an apprentice over the age 21 (without an EHCP) then you are likely to pay 5% towards the training cost.
If you are an employer with an Apprenticeship levy (i.e. your payroll exceeds £3 Million) then you will pay in full from your levy account.
