COURSE OVERVIEW
The Health and Social Care Level 3 Triple: Integrated AAQs in Allied Health, Childhood Development and Medical Science is a comprehensive programme designed to embed the key knowledge and skills to progress into further study and/or employment within medical science, allied health, social workforce or childrens education.
This course combines and includes 3 Extended Certificate AAQs (Alternative Academic Qualifications).

- Human biology
- Health science
- Principles of health and social care practice
- Human lifespan and development
- Principles of human physiology, anatomy, and pathology
- Health issues and scientific reporting
- Practical microbiology and infectious diseases
- Human reproduction and fertility
- Child development
- Keeping children safe
- Play and learning
- Research and reflective practice in an early childhood setting
This is a two-year full-time course, no additional A Level or vocational qualification can be studied alongside it. The course is the equivalent to 3 A Levels. The course has the same UCAS points as 3 A Levels (for examples achieving D*D*D* in the 3 AAQs is the same UCAS points as A*A*A* in 3 separate emails).
Students will experience a range of teaching, learning, and assessment activities on the course.
There is a lot of class discussion and small group work. Students will also be expected to give regular presentations of work to the class. Students will need to develop research and academic writing skills. Students will complete two work experience placement weeks over the duration of the course.
FURTHER INFORMATION
You need a minimum of five GCSEs at 9-4, including a grade 4 in Science and grade 4 in English Language. You are not expected to have studied any of the topics on this course previously but must have a career ambition related to Health and Social Care.
Grade 4 in GCSE Maths and Grade 5 in GCSE Science are recommended but not a requirement.
Most students take this course because they are interested in careers in nursing or midwifery or with young people, social work or primary teaching. Most of these careers require you to go to university but some students have progressed directly to work in the care sector.
Previous students have also used health and social care qualifications to study a wide range of courses at university including youth work, criminology, psychology and occupational therapy or to start an apprenticeship.
Some units are assessed by coursework and some units are assessed by exams.
You will need a lively and enquiring mind, a willingness to explore new ideas and the ability to communicate ideas effectively.
You will need to develop good independent study skills; individual research and portfolio work are at the heart of this course.
You will also complete two work experience placement weeks over the duration of the course.
