COURSE OVERVIEW
The AAQ (Alternative Academic Qualification) in Engineering provides you with the fundamentals in a multitude of Engineering skills; no matter what type of engineering you are into, this is the course for you. You will study Electronics in our purpose-built Electronics lab, Mechanical skills in our brand-new Engineering Centre, Computer Aided Design in our state-of-the-art IT suites and much more! After learning the basic Engineering principles with our expert teachers, you will have the chance to design and build your own prototype engineering device.
Worthing College has strong relationships with local Engineering employers, so your course will be enriched with visits to real-life Engineering firms, talks from employers and trips to university-based Engineering facilities so you can get a taste of life as an Engineer.
This AAQ is an OCR Level 3 Advanced National in Engineering and is a two-year course which is the equivalent of 1 A Level.
FURTHER INFORMATION
You need a minimum of five GCSEs at 9-4, including 54 in GCSE Science, 5 in GCSE Maths and 4 in GCSE English Language.
You might be interested in this qualification if you want to apply what you learn to practical, real-life contexts, such as:
· Recreating physical products as a 3D model.
· Assembling, testing and programming electronic devices.
· Disassembling a product to investigate how it works.
This course will sit alongside two other courses, such as A Levels, BTECs or AAQs, and goes perfectly with:

· A Level Environmental Science
University: This course gives you the perfect foundation to apply to university for courses such as BEng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering or BEng (Hons) Electronic Engineering. It’;s a good idea to take A Level Maths as well if you are thinking of applying for Engineering at University.
Degree Apprenticeships: Our work with local industry gives our students the edge when it comes to securing competitive Degree Apprenticeships with local and national companies.
HTQ: You can apply for a Level 4 Engineering course such as the Level 4 HNC Engineering for England course here at Worthing College.
40% exam, 60% Coursework.
Over the two-year course, you will have two exams, one in the first year and one in the second. You will have three coursework units, which will be assessed by your teacher and moderated by OCR.
