Virtual careers week benefits students across West Sussex

Chichester College Group (CCG) students enjoyed a fantastic virtual celebration of National Careers Week earlier this month.

The week was marked entirely online, with students at all five CCG colleges (Brinsbury, Chichester, Crawley, Haywards Heath and Worthing) invited to join a variety of webinars, workshops and talks – all designed to inspire their career aspirations.

It meant thousands of young people across West Sussex were able to access a wealth of guidance, supporting them in their next steps.

Around 30 online sessions were held throughout the week, and included guest speakers from a host of employers including BAE Systems, the BBC, NatWest and the RAF. There were also dedicated focus sessions exploring careers across different industries, such as science, law, business and creative media.

One particular highlight was a keynote speech from the group’s own chief executive – Shelagh Legrave, who talked about her journey to the top and gave some inspirational insights into her career as well as sharing her advice.

Lisa Humphries, Director of Student Services and Pastoral Support at CCG, said: “What a fantastic week for our students at all five of our colleges.

“They really embraced the activities our Progression Plus teams had arranged, which will only serve to benefit them as they continue on their journey through education and into employment.

“We are particularly grateful to those companies and individuals who supported the week and gave up their time to share their stories, helping to inspire the next generation in their careers.

“We are proud to be able to provide Outstanding careers guidance for our students, and support them in their next steps – whether that’s higher education, apprenticeships or employment. It’s important they are equipped with the tools they need to succeed.

“And we give them that, not just during National Careers Week – but throughout the teams, via our dedicated advisors in our Progression Plus centres at each of our campuses.”
