Remembrance Centenary #ThankYou100

November 8, 2018

Sunday 11th November 2018 marked the 100 year anniversary of the end of WW1.  We held our own service of remembrance on Friday 9th November, with both staff and students coming together with the Old Azurians to remember those who gave their lives with a two minute silence, and to mark the 100 year anniversary of the end of the first world war.

We have been commemorating November 11th for a number of years at both Bolsover Road and our current location, Sanditon Way. Since moving here we’ve incorporated the remembrance stone into our college grounds so we can hold a more public commemoration, inviting the Old Azurians along to be a part of the annual event.

To mark this particular historic occasion and show our support, we arranged to have a banner of 100 poppies to represent 100 years. Our history students, as part of their 'Getting Ready For Pack', were asked to contribute by researching the name of someone from the local area who died in the war. Each of the fallen soldiers are represented by an individual poppy surrounded by their name, rank and battalion/regiment on commemorative banners displayed in our reception.

We also had poppy’s available in our reception for those who wished to wear one in remembrance and make a donation in support of the Poppy Appeal, along with some beautiful hand made cakes from the Children First Nursery. #ThankYou100
