International Women’s Day 2018

March 8, 2018

For International Women's Day 2018 we asked our staff to share with us the most inspirational women in their life.

The World Economic Forum's 2017 Global Gender Gap Report findings show that gender parity is over 200 years away. With global activism for women's equality fuelled by movements like International Women's Day and more - there is a strong global momentum striving for gender parity.

Discover the women who inspire our staff the most:

Anne Pithie - Marketing and Premises Manager

"There are so many inspirational women in my life, too many to mention here and you all know who you are! As they are all celebrating their birthdays this week meet my mother and my two sisters who are three inspiring women!"

James Heginbottom - Graphic Designer

"I have chosen Katie Scott. She is an illustrator who has worked with people such as Nike, Penguin, New York Times, Urban Outfitters, Wallpaper, Phaidon, Norwegian Medical Journal, Universal Records, and the BBC. She gave a lecture when I was studying at Brighton University and I found her attitude and approach to her practice inspiring. The way she spoke about her experience and the advice she gave was something that grabbed me as a student and has been something I have drawn upon in my own development and career."

Steve Williams - Admissions Director / Liberian

"Jan Morris, is probably the worlds finest writer about places and people. She was born James Morris and was the first newspaper reporter to climb Mount Everest in 1953. In 1972 she transgendered and wrote about her experience  in her book 'Conundrum'. 'Trieste, and the meaning of Nowhere' is one of my favourite books. She is now 91 years old."

Holly Billinghurst - Teacher of Computing

"My most inspirational woman is Grace Hopper. She was a pioneer of computer programming and worked on the Harvard Mark 1 team."

Adam Knight & Lee Fulham - Teachers of Sport

"Our most inspirational woman of all time is Laura Kenny.

She has achieved a total of four Olympic gold medals and is the most successful female track cyclist in Olympic history. She is also Great Britain's most successful Olympic female competitor in any sport."

Isabel Spavins - Business Development Advisor

"My most inspirational woman of all time is The Queen. I find her a fantastic role model and real inspiration."
