Academy of Sport Awards - celebrating student success!

On Thursday 24th May we held our Academy of Sport Awards Evening at the Pavilion Theatre in Worthing, celebrating our 10th anniversary of our Sports Academy provision. It's been one of our most successful years to date in terms of the multitude of cup and league successes enjoyed by our teams.

We would like to thank all the students, staff, partners, parents and carers involved for all their passion and commitment to the unparalleled success of the Sports Academy over this and the last 10 years.

Tina Price Academy of Sport Co-ordinator:

This year we are the County Champions in Netball, Women's Football and both 1st and 2nd team Men's Football, for one College to win 4 of the five County Cups is an amazing achievement by both players and coaches.

The efforts that all the academy coaches go to is second to none. The work that goes on behind the scenes in encouraging the most talented players to come and do their education at Worthing College, the opportunities, in terms of competitions entered, National Trials, and support given to the academy students really does mean that the coaches go above and beyond at all times.

The AoC National Championships were again an amazing weekend with the college being represented by the Netball Academy and the Women’s Rugby making up the majority of the SE Rugby Squad, coupled with Alex Fox representing the South East in Tennis. Again a massive thank you to Sarah Briggs for giving non academy students the opportunity to participate in the AOC Regional Championships. An award was also given to the sports apprentice of the year for their contribution both in and out of college.

We also celebrated our success nationally and internationally with the following achievements:

National Success

  • Women’s Rugby: AoC National Champs

  • Men’s Football: Semi Finalists

  • Netball: 4th best in the country

International honours

  • Netball: Two AoC National squad members plus an England Youth international

  • Women's Rugby: One England U18 and one Italy U18 internationals

  • Women's Football: Two England Colleges' internationals plus one full England U19 international
