Owen’s not hanging around!

Students come to us with different aspirations and goals for when they leave college, aiming for employment, apprenticeships, or university. University applications can be tough and for the most competitive courses or universities, it can be even harder. Student, Owen Tobias, is aiming to go on to study Veterinary medicine at university, and has been completing lots of work experience to stand out in his applications! Here is his story.

‘’To prepare myself for my university applications I spent a lot of time reviewing and revisiting my notes from my work experience placements and researching different articles based around my interest in veterinary medicine.

I have been lucky enough to do a varied amount of work experience, my favourite experience must be my current job at Vets4pets Worthing as a nursing assistant. I have been truly hands-on, met some lovely animals and get to work with an amazing team of people!

I also had the amazing opportunity to visit Costa Rica as part of a veterinary internship. It was a fantastic experience where I learnt about all aspects of veterinary medicine. In the two weeks whilst I was there I learnt how and actually got to take blood from a cow, horse and other exotic species whilst doing rotations. I also visited a sloth sanctuary where I got up close and personal with this fascinating species.

My aspirations for after college is to study veterinary medicine at university. Worthing college has helped support my application as well as help with the interview process for my course.’’

Owen’s commitment, hard work and determination is an inspiration. We’re certain he will make an amazing vet!
