From the 19th to 23rd March we held our annual Charity Week in aid of raising money for three Charities chosen by our Student Union; Worthing Churches Homeless Project, Teenage Cancer Trust and Sport Relief.
There were plenty of exciting events taking place to support the week and we were so pleased with the support we got from the students and staff participating in the events and the general members of the public donating items to be sold in Worthing Churches Homeless Project shops.
The week started off with a Coffee Morning in aid of Teenage Cancer Trust with hot drinks and cakes available for a donation. The Student Union supported the event and raised nearly £50!
On Tuesday, students and staff participated in a non-stop Table Tennis challenge for Sport Relief which raised £15.
Wednesday was den building day to help raise awareness for Worthing Churches Homeless Project. Four brilliant teams set out to build the best den in hope of being our annual 'Best Den' winner. The Maths and Computer Science department thought outside the box and created a innovative Virtual Reality Den which can be seen here, the Social Science Team went for a more humorous den with 'The Bethleden', Visual Arts got creative and made a stunning den with a focus on recycling...and finally, the Student Advice and Support Department created a fantastic calming space called the 'Zen Den'. Only one winner could be chosen which was judged by The Student Union and Chair of Governors, Paul Amoo. Although it was a tough call, Student Advice and Support's 'Zen Den' came up tops and took the winning spot (picture below)!
Thursday we opened the Dens to receive donations of good quality clothing, books and children's toys to be sold in Worthing Churches Homeless Project's shops. We were amazed with the generosity of staff, students and the general public with the bags and bags of items donated. The Nursery Department also did their bit by riding an exercise bike to reach 11miles on a round trip to Buckingham palace and back in aid of Sports Relief, which raised £130!
Friday was our final event for Charity Week, and what better way to end it than with a Bake off and Cake Sale in aid of Teenage Cancer Trust! There were plenty of delicious cakes brought in by Staff and Students, but only one could be our winner. The Student Union put their taste buds into action and chose the Victoria Sponge by student, Sam Frost. The rest could then be cut up and given out for donations which raised a fantastic £55.
Overall another successful Charity Week and we are happy to have a raised a total of £250 plus lots of donations for Worthing Churches Homeless Project, all of which will go to such great causes.
