The beginning of May saw the last of this year’s Aspire Programme talks by Professor Nicky Marsh, from the University of Southampton. We also had a visit from Worthing College alumni and former Aspire programme student, Danielle Taylor Golds.
Danielle left Worthing College to study Veterinary Medicine at the Royal Veterinary College (we actually covered her journey in a previous blog post HERE) which is the top Veterinary school in the world. So she definitely knows a thing or two about competitive university applications. She came in to speak to our early university applicant students who are at the start of their UCAS application journey within the Aspire programme. Danielle was able to give a great first-hand account of her journey from a Worthing College student to an undergraduate at a competitive university. Danielle also spoke to our potential future vets to give them some amazing personal statement and university preparation guidance. It is always great to see Worthing College alumni and we really appreciate Danielle coming in to support our current students.
Danielle’s talk was followed by the incredibly fascinating and curious talk from the Professor of English Studies at Southampton University, Nicky Marsh. Nicky’s talk, titled ‘What Colour are Dorothy’s Shoes: Money, Magic and American Culture’, was an engaging and powerful talk on the meaning and purpose of money making links to The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. Anybody who attended the talk will think differently the next time they see a balloon, that’s for sure!
Aspire talks will start again in the next academic year, once we have enrolled all our new students. If you’re looking for a path to the most competitive universities with excellent support, there is still time to apply to study with us from September. You can make your application HERE.
