Just before the end of term, our Sports Science team took first and second year students to Chichester University, where they could experience a sports science lab first hand.
On the trip, the students were taught and guided through two laboratory-based fitness tests. One test focussed on V02 Max testing using Douglas bags and blood lactate analysis, the other test focussed on the impact of altitude on a six-minute step test (the altitude chamber was set to 6000m – the height of Kilimanjaro). The students also had a tour and a brief talk on courses and opportunities at Chichester University.
This was a great learning experience for all involved, supporting the students in their current academic assessment, as it linked to current units of study they are undertaking. It was also a great work-based learning and progression discussion opportunity, giving our students insight into where a career in Sports Science could take them!
The short video below shows what the day involved. Full information on our Sport and Exercise course can be found HERE.
