Aspiring Mathematicians visit University of Sussex

On Tuesday the 13th November, we took 16 of our Aspire Programme and CUPP (Competitive University Preparation Programme) students to the University of Sussex for an engaging and stimulating lecture presented by Professor of Applied Mathematics, Istvann Kiss.

Istvann, who has been lecturing at Sussex for over a decade, shared his field-leading insight on mathematical models and how they can be used in researching and preventing the spread of infectious diseases. His lecture ‘the mathematics of epidemics on networks: taming complexity’ provided our students with an example of how mathematics can translate into solutions for very complicated real-world problems, and how it relates and contributes to multiple fields.

Thank you to Istvann for his time and for his engaging lecture, a real inspiration to this group of budding mathematicians, who are all aiming to progress to some of the UK’s top Universities.
