On Wednesday 14th November 2018, our Aspire programme students were treated to an eye-opening talk from University of Brighton Professor of Ecology, Chris Joyce. Chris has authored over 40 peer-reviewed publications and co-authored two books, among his many achievements.
Specialising his research on the importance of wetlands and their ecosystems, Chris gave an inspiring and intellectually stimulating lecture about the critical issue of biodiversity facing the environment and our planet. His lecture came at a time when the nation was reeling over backlash of a banned advert made by UK frozen food specialist, Iceland, and environmental charity Greenpeace. The advert highlighted the destructive and environmentally damaging effect of palm oil, proving to our students that now really is a time for a change in opinions globally around the subjects of Biodiversity, Environmentalism and Conservationism.
Thank you to Chris for his stimulating and passionate lecture, a real inspiration to our Aspire students who are all aiming to progress to some of the UK’s top Universities.
