Our International students come from all over the globe, from Syria, Iran, Afghanistan and Lebanon to Mexico, Brazil and all over Europe. Some study ESOL, some IELTS for university access and work, but they all have one thing in common: a pride in their origins and great willingness to share their experiences with the students and staff of Worthing College.
International Day took place at lunchtime. Over 50 students displayed the history and fun facts of their home countries and offered everyone a huge range of local foods and drinks.
Julie Jaresova, from the Czech Republic, found the event great: “It’s really nice to try the different foods because it gives you an idea of the different tastes of people.”
Paula Garcia, from Mexico, said, “It’s really nice to put this on because you get to meet other students and learn about different countries.” She only wished for more food and especially more ingredients from her home country to make authentic Mexican food.
Some students turned up in their breathtakingly beautiful traditional costumes, proud to represent their countries: Alina Shrestha from Nepal, Shivangi Rames from India and Nargis Mangal from Afghanistan were happy to pose for photos and even demonstrated a traditional dance routine.
Students and staff were keen to learn more about the different cultures and to taste some international flavours. A big thank you to everyone who helped and attended.
