What is an industry placement?
An Industry Placement is a fantastic opportunity to complete a long term work experience placement in a career which you want to pursue.
You spend 45 days/315 hours in a placement over the course of one year, normally with one employer, in order to get an in-depth knowledge of that area of employment.
Why should I consider an industry placement?
Boost your chances of getting the job that you want. Industry placements look great on your CV and enhance your personal statement when applying to university or a job.
Explore career paths. It’s hard to know what career you want to follow without hands on experience of that area of work.
Improve your skills. An Industry Placement helps you to observe and learn the skills necessary for working in your chosen area of employment.
Personal development. Industry placements help you grow as a person, develop confidence and improve your communication skills.
Get your first job. Many employers recruit their new employees from their work experience students
Support your studies. The experience of a workplace helps your studies come alive. Apply the knowledge you have learned in the classroom to real world situations will boost your understanding of topics.
"I benefited hugely from this placement. I was able to put my learning and skills to practical use and to learn so much about working within the industry. This kind of learning simply could not have been taught in the classroom alone."
"Throughout my placement I was supported by staff at the college, who aided me with regular meetings and conversations."
