The Female Football Academy at Worthing College is a full time education and football development programme open up to talented 16-18 year old footballers.
The focus at the Academy is to not only develop the players performance, but also achieve academic excellence across a varied academic pathway, whether it be A-Levels, BTEC or a combination. The Academic and training pathway fit around each other, allowing potential to be met across both areas, leading to a wider range of progression opportunities through football, university, apprenticeships or employment.
Highly qualified coaches incorporate a large amount of skill and technical training into a typical week. This includes technical sessions, functional practices, phases of play, strength and conditioning work as well as specific recovery gym programmes.
On field training takes place at the home of Sussex FA (Lancing) and in addition to this the squad work closely with a Strength & Conditioning Coach to ensure that players are in the prime physical condition to not only play at a high intensity, but to also understand the importance of recovery and prehabilitation (not getting injured.). S&C training is very much a requirement for the academic athlete, which is the Academy of Sports ethos.
Experienced and well qualified staff ensure that player development is paramount and that an effective learning environment is provided to allow players to be a success both on the field and in the classroom.
Support staff include strength and conditioning as well as sports therapy to ensure that players are in the best physical condition to compete in all aspects of College.
The Female Football Academy competes at the top level of College football in England. This allows players to test themselves against some of the best players outside of the professional game. This provides a highly effective learning environment.
The squad compete each week in the following competitions, allowing maximum player and team development:
ECFA Category 2 National League
ESFA National Colleges’ Cup
SSFA County Cup
