COURSE OVERVIEW
The purpose of these qualifications is to develop students as professional, self reflecting individuals able to meet the demands of employers in the engineering sector and to adapt to a constantly changing world. The qualifications aim to widen access to higher education and enhance the career prospects of those who undertake them. The Pearson BTEC Higher National qualifications in Engineering provide a comprehensive foundation in engineering principles, practical skills, and industry-relevant knowledge, ideal for students aiming for engineering careers or further academic study. The program covers core modules such as engineering design, mathematics, and management. Flexible delivery options make it accessible for various learning needs. FURTHER INFORMATION
The course is suitable for anyone with a Level 3 qualification or above and anyone coming from a job in the engineering sector. The course will prepare you for the first year of a University degree. The standard is at that level and the expectations are that anyone interested in joining the course has a good foundation of engineering knowledge. You do not need to be experts or have many years of experience.
In addition to workplace career progression, the course will enable academic progression to university or on to HND courses. Recent students have worked in fields as varied as: medical equipment offshore renewable energy oil and gas systems aerospace engine design development general production manufacturing. Potential career pathways include:Â Research and development Engineer Production management Design engineering Production or test engineer
Assessment will be in the form of typed reports, practical activities, small group work, presentations and other methods. There are no exams on the course. However, there may be occasional tests to assist with the assessment and will form part of the learning process.
2025/2026: Part-time fee of £3,400 per annum. The course is delivered with up to date and industry standard equipment and software. This allows you to have plenty of access to workshops and classrooms with practical equipment to develop your learning and skills. We pride ourselves on providing this environment as our small cohort of students can spend much of your time in the labs. There are no requirements for you to purchase your own equipment or bring in your own equipment as everything is provided. However, some of you may want to purchase your own equipment to enable further study and research.
