Paul Amoo - Chair of Governors
Paul joined the Governors in June 2014.
Roy Bowden - Governor
Roy joined the Governors in February 2015. His career has been primarily in secondary education working at senior levels in academic, pastoral and administrative roles. He has previous experience as a governor in a Further Education College, has been Chief Examiner and Chair of Examiners with a major examination board, and an Open University tutor in Economics.
Richard Bradford Associate Governor
Richard has worked in the field of international education for over 20 years. He has held director level positions for the past 10 years and has been a governor since February 2015. Richard specialises in digital strategy and engagement and enjoys helping organisations to function effectively and holistically.
Andrea joined the College in August 2017 within the Marketing team and became the Clerk to the Corporation in July 2018. Andrea’s career spans Travel, Event & Conference Management and Training, working within the private sector and an International Sports Federation.
Val Ellis - Governor
Val has lived in Worthing for over 40 years and during that time has worked both locally in Worthing and also in London primarily in the world of finance. Both of her children attended Worthing College and now live and work in London and High Wycombe. Since finishing paid employment she is enjoying the challenge of being part of the governing body of Worthing College.
Joanne Fowler - Governor
Jo was appointed as governor in March 2017. She has over 25 years experience within the education and training arena, the last 12 of which were spent in middle and senior management roles in large, multi-site Further Education Colleges in Kent and Sussex before moving into her current role as an independent Education Consultant specialising in Apprenticeships and workforce development, Commercial and Business Development including acquisitions and mergers and effective Curriculum Design.
Steven was appointed as Governor in July 2018. He spent most of his 30 year executive working career in the ICT market leading global divisions for McDonnell Douglas, Northgate IS and the Dell Corporation. On leaving Dell in 2016 he joined West Sussex County Council as an independent member of their Remunerations Panel and Standards Committee and also joined the South Downs National Park Authority as an independent member of their Standards Committee. He is also a non-exec director on the board.
Ian was born in Hong Kong, went to grammar schools in Singapore and Bedford, and got an Economics degree from Warwick. He worked for the Department for Education for almost 40 years, leaving in June 2018. He worked on a wide range of policy areas, including some relating to FE and HE, but mostly schools. Sue Jenkins - Associate Governor
Sue was appointed as governor in February 2015. She has more than 30 years’ experience working within the NHS and has spent the last 13 years as a strategic leader working at Board level. Sue has a strong track record of delivering sustainable improvement across complex systems and is experienced in managing and implementing service improvement through the use of evidence based change management techniques and effective partnership working.
Paul Riley - Principal at W/Coll
Paul was appointed as Interim Principal and a college Governor in September 2016 and as permanent Principal in March 2017. He has over 20 years experience in FE, working across three colleges as well as experience of private and public sector service employment. Married with two children, Paul is a West Sussex resident and passionate about local services and the college's place in the community as a champion of collaboration and partnership working.
Sally Skinner - Governor
Sally joined as an external governor in December 2016 after moving permanently to Worthing following a close association for over 15 years. Sally's background is in Learning and Development working for blue chip organisations in financial services and the public sector. Her career path has given her a breadth of experience enabling a depth of understanding in budgeting, change management, leadership and communication.
Elizabeth Sparkes - Governor
Elizabeth is a Worthing Borough Councillor for Offington Ward. Elizabeth works in financial services in London, specialising in insolvency and business restructuring. She lives locally and is married with a young daughter. Elizabeth has been a Governor since December 2013.
Jane Thorns - Staff Governor
Jane has worked at Worthing College in the Exams Office since 2007 and has been a Support Staff Governor since September 2016.
Hazel Thorpe - Associate Governor
Hazel is the former Champion for Children and Young People. Hazel has more than 25 years of working in education and was a Special Needs Coordinator. She has been a Governor since October 2009.
