EMA and ALG
EDUCATION MAINTENANCE ALLOWANCE (EMA)
If you are enrolling at Worthing College you may be able to get Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA) which is a weekly payment of up to £30.

I have been awarded EMA what happens next?
If you are awarded EMA you will be sent a Notice of Entitlement letter with Part 1 Contract attached. Your payments will not start until you have brought this into college. When you bring in your Part 1 Contract you will be given an EMA Information Pack. Please read this carefully as it gives more details on how to qualify for weekly/bonus payments and what to do when you are absent from college.
How do I get my payments?
EMA weekly payments are paid direct into your bank account at the end of each week.
You will receive EMA each week as long as you:
- attend all lessons
- follow the correct procedure for absence reporting
What happens if I don’t qualify for payment?
If you do not qualify for payment for a particular week you will be notified via the Student Information System website. If you have not qualified for payment you will be able to query the decision.
If you are not satisfied with the outcome of your query, you have the right to appeal. To do this you should request a form and instructions from the Student Intervention & EMA/ALG Co-ordinator.
Bonuses
You may be eligible for a bonus payment of £100 in January and/or July. To qualify you need to make appropriate learning progress for your course.

ADULT LEARNING GRANT (ALG)
If you are aged 19 or over you may be eligible for an Adult Learning Grant (ALG). This is a weekly payment worth up to £30 per week.
Can I get ALG?
